Privacy Policy
Last updated: 3 October 2026
In short: BooksLex keeps only what it needs to run your account and your reading shelf.
There are no ads, no tracking and no analytics in the app, and we never sell your data. You can delete your account and everything in it from inside the app.
1. Who we are
BooksLex is a mobile app for tracking the books you read. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “BooksLex” mean the developer of the app. You can reach us at support@bookslex.com.
2. What we collect
Account information
- Email address, if you create an account with email.
- Password. We never see it. It is stored only as a secure, one-way hash by our authentication provider.
- Sign in with Apple. If you use it, Apple gives us a unique identifier for you and the email address you choose to share. That may be Apple’s private relay address, which hides your real email.
Your shelf
- The books you add (title, author, year, page count, subjects and a reference to the cover).
- Your own entries: reading status, star rating, start and finish dates, current page, private notes, and your yearly reading goal.
Technical information
- Our service providers may record technical details such as your IP address and device type when you sign in or sync, so they can run the service and keep it secure.
What we do not collect: your location, contacts, photos, advertising identifier, or any analytics or behaviour tracking.
3. How we use it
- To create your account and sign you in.
- To save your shelf and keep it in sync across your devices.
- To email you a verification or password-reset code when you ask for one.
- To keep the service secure and working.
We do not use your data for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing.
4. Who handles your data
We use a small number of providers to run BooksLex. They process data only to provide their service to us.
| Provider | What it does | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Sign-in and secure cloud storage of your account and shelf | Email, sign-in details, shelf data |
| Resend | Sends verification and password-reset emails | Your email address and the code |
| Apple | “Sign in with Apple”, if you choose it | Handled under Apple’s own privacy policy |
| Open Library (Internet Archive) | Book search, details and cover images | The words you search for and the book you open. Nothing from your account. |
| Cloudflare | Our domain and this website | Standard website visit information |
Some of these providers may store data in countries other than yours. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
5. Data on your phone
A copy of your shelf is kept on your device so the app is fast and works offline. If you delete the app, that copy is removed. Your cloud copy stays until you delete your account.
6. Your choices and your rights
- Edit or remove books at any time in the app.
- Delete your account. Open the Account tab and tap Delete account. This permanently deletes your login and everything on your shelf, on every device. It cannot be undone.
- Ask us. You can email us to ask for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to have it deleted.
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, the UK or California), you may also have the right to access, correct, delete or move your data, or to object to how it is used. We will respond to such requests within a reasonable time.
7. How long we keep data
We keep your account and shelf for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your data is removed from our database straight away. Backups kept by our hosting provider may hold copies for a limited time before they are overwritten.
8. Security
Data travels over encrypted connections, and our database rules allow each signed-in user to read and change only their own data. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
9. Children
BooksLex is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will also tell you in the app.
